The Kogi state commissioner, Asiwaju Asiru Idris, FCA, has commended Deacon Otitoju Olusuyi, Aiyenigba, and the Executive of the Okun Development Initiative (ODI) for successfully organizing the Okun Unity Dialogue.
Idris described the gathering as a demonstration of the ability of the Okun people to overcome their differences and unite around common interests.
In a statement issued on Thursday, he said the attendance of traditional rulers, elder statesmen, professionals, political leaders, community stakeholders, and sons and daughters of Okunland from within and outside Nigeria reflected the credibility of the initiative and the people’s desire for greater unity.

He also commended those who voluntarily supported the event, saying their contributions and sacrifices reflected the importance of shared ownership in building a community.
“I therefore congratulate Deacon Otitoju Olusuyi, Aiyenigba, the ODI Executive, and everyone who worked behind the scenes to make the dialogue a success,” he said.
Idris, who received an award as Okun Pride for Community Service, thanked the organizers for the recognition.
He, however, urged the Okun people to build on the momentum generated by the dialogue, saying the gathering should lead to lasting understanding, unity, development, and political strength.
“The task ahead is to ensure that the enthusiasm generated by this gathering does not end with the event. Dialogue must lead to understanding; understanding must strengthen unity; and unity must ultimately translate into the development, political strength, and prosperity of Okunland,” he stated.
The Asiwaju also urged the people to regard their diversity as a source of strength, saying differences in opinions, interests, and approaches should not prevent them from reaching common ground on issues affecting the progress and dignity of Okunland.
“Who says Okun cannot come together? Okun has demonstrated that we can. Now, we must sustain it,” he declared.
He congratulated ODI and the entire Okun family on the successful dialogue.
