The Kano State Police Command has recorded a major operational breakthrough in its sustained interstate handshake patrols and clearance operations along the Kano-Kaduna and Kano-Katsina borders.
The Command said the operations are in line with the directives of the Inspector-General of Police, IGP Olatunji Rilwan Disu.
In a statement on Sunday, September 21, 2026, by the Police Public Relations Officer, CSP Abdullahi Haruna Kiyawa, the police said operatives of the Anti-Kidnapping Squad arrested a notorious suspected kidnapper and cattle rustler on September 14.
According to the statement, based on credible intelligence, operatives conducted a targeted operation at about 4:48 p.m. and arrested one Habibu Bello, 35, of Kunkumi Town, Makarfi Local Government Area of Kaduna State.
Kiyawa said the suspect is a notorious suspected kidnapper and alleged member of a syndicate specialized in armed robbery and cattle rustling operating across Kano, Katsina and Kaduna States.
He said investigation led to the arrest of one Mudam of Kwanar Dangora as a member of the syndicate.
“The suspect also confessed to several previous kidnapping incidents, including abduction of one Hajiya Binta of Kwanar Dangora, for which ₦20,000,000.00 was allegedly paid as ransom, kidnapping and collection of ransom of a household in Gwarzo LGA, Kano State among others, and also involvement in cattle rustling activities across Kano, Kaduna and Katsina States,” the statement said.
The Command said investigation is ongoing and efforts are being intensified to arrest other members of the syndicate and recover their operational weapons.
In a separate operation, the Command said its operatives recovered a Cine-Camera Drone marked GT 50 during clearance operations.
The drone was recovered on September 17 at about 2:00 p.m. at Hawan Tarau Village, Bebeji LGA, Kano State, after it was found lying on the ground in the area.
The police said efforts are being intensified to trace the source and the owner.
The Commissioner of Police, Kano State Command, CP Ibrahim Adamu Bakori, commended the gallantry of the operatives and reiterated that the Command will sustain aggressive clearance operations in collaboration with neighbouring Commands to deny criminal elements any safe haven.
