The FCT Police Command has arrested a 38-year-old suspect, Mohammed Aliyu, who is not a resident of the FCT, for allegedly attempting to steal a Hyundai Santa Fe parked at the Customs Headquarters, Maitama, on 15 September 2026.
The suspect was paraded before newsmen by the FCT Commissioner of Police Ahmed Muhammed Sanusi on Monday.
Preliminary investigation revealed that the suspect allegedly specialises in breaking into vehicles parked in public places and unlawfully removing them for onward sale in Kaduna.
He had previously been arrested in Garki and Zuba for similar offences and charged to court.
Following his release, he reportedly travelled to Gombe State, his home state, but subsequently returned to the FCT, where he is alleged to have resumed the same activities.
The suspect has also reportedly confessed to breaking into more than 10 vehicles in the past. Investigation is ongoing, and further developments will be communicated.
