Operatives of the Kaduna State Police Command have rescued 75 kidnapped victims in Birnin Gwari Local Government Area after armed men abandoned them in a forest cave.
The incident occurred on Wednesday, 19th August 2026 at about 5:30pm at Folwaya Village, near Birnin Gwari, according to a statement by the Command on 21st August 2026.
The Police said they received credible information from the NURTW, Birnin Gwari Branch, that some Fulani men, women, and children traveling in commercial buses were abducted by unknown gunmen wielding AK-47 rifles and other sophisticated weapons.
The abductors reportedly took the victims into the forest and hid them in a cave within a mountainous area.
“Upon receipt of the information, a crack team from the Birnin Gwari Area Command was immediately deployed to the location,” the statement said.
On sighting the well-armed police operatives, the abductors fled and abandoned their captives. All 75 victims were rescued unharmed.
The Commissioner of Police, Kaduna State Command, CP Rabiu Muhammad, commended the NURTW, Birnin Gwari Branch, for providing “timely and vital information.”
He also applauded the Area Commander and his operatives for their “swift and professional response.”
The CP, in a statement signed by the Kaduna Police Public Relations Officer, DSP Mansir Hassan, urged residents to remain vigilant and to promptly report any suspicious movements to the Police.
He further cautioned against taking the law into their own hands, noting that such actions “could lead to the loss of innocent lives.”
Security agencies in Kaduna have in recent months intensified operations against banditry and kidnapping in Birnin Gwari and other border communities.
