The Okpe Traditional Council, under the Udogun Okpe, has directed communities across Okpe Kingdom to suspend burials, traditional marriages and weddings during activities marking the 20th coronation anniversary of His Royal Majesty, Major General Felix Mujakperuo (Rtd), Orhue I, CFR, mni.
TheNewsGuru (TNG) reports the directive is contained in a letter dated October 7, 2026, and signed by the Secretary of the Okpe Traditional Council/Udogun Okpe, Okakuro O. P. Biadoyo, with the anniversary activities set to run from November 13 to 22, 2026.
In the letter addressed to all district heads and district presidents, the council declared that no ceremonies involving burials, traditional marriages or weddings would be permitted within the kingdom throughout the anniversary period.
“In view of the 20th Coronation Anniversary Celebration, there shall be no other ceremony such as burials, traditional marriages or weddings in the kingdom within the period of the anniversary celebration,” the letter stated.
The council explained that the directive was issued in connection with the landmark royal celebration and instructed community leaders to ensure strict compliance across their respective jurisdictions.
It further directed district heads and presidents to communicate the decision to members of their communities, including towns and villages, to prevent violations during the period.
“You are to pass this directive to members of your various communities (towns/villages) to adhere strictly to the above,” the letter stated.
Emphasising the importance of compliance, the council added: “Please treat with utmost importance.”
TNG reports the 10-day anniversary period is expected to focus attention on the reign and traditional leadership of the Orodje of Okpe Kingdom, with the council urging community leaders to ensure that residents are informed of the restrictions ahead of the commencement of activities.
The directive applies to communities throughout Okpe Kingdom, covering Okpe and Sapele council areas, for the specified anniversary period, from November 13 to November 22, 2026.
