Kogi State Governor, Alhaji Ahmed Ododo, has received a proposal on power rotation and equitable resource allocation from the Kogi Unity Accord Committee following consultations across the state’s 21 local government areas.
The committee, chaired by Bode Adeyemi, presented its report to the governor at the Government House in Lokoja following a two-day summit held on 30 September and 1 October 2026.
The documents submitted to the governor included the summit report, a communiqué and the 1 October Accord, which the committee described as a Charter of Equity and Inclusive Governance for Kogi State.
The proposal seeks to provide a framework for power rotation and the fair distribution of resources among the state’s different political and geographical constituencies.
Receiving the documents, Governor Ododo urged the committee to extend its consultations to former governors, political leaders, members of the National Assembly, lawmakers in the Kogi State House of Assembly, traditional rulers and other relevant stakeholders to ensure broader consideration of the proposal.
The governor stressed the importance of reaching an agreement that would promote lasting peace, unity and political stability rather than create fresh challenges for future generations.
“I will not be party to something that will solve a problem now and create a major problem for the future generation,” Ododo said.
He emphasised the need for any proposed agreement to be properly documented, noting that a clear and well-considered framework would be essential to achieving sustainable solutions to issues surrounding political inclusion and governance in the state.
Earlier, Adeyemi explained that the committee had consulted traditional rulers, religious leaders, community groups, professional bodies and civil society organisations across Kogi State.
According to him, the consultations were intended to gather diverse opinions and develop a proposal capable of addressing concerns about equity, inclusion and the distribution of political opportunities in the state.
He added that the committee would submit the documents to the Kogi State House of Assembly, the State Council of Traditional Rulers and other relevant stakeholders for further consideration.
The submission marks another step in ongoing efforts to build consensus on power rotation and equitable governance in Kogi State. The proposed accord is expected to undergo further scrutiny by political, traditional and community leaders before any decisions are reached.
