A lady has stirred widespread reactions on social media after revealing the ultimatum she gave her boyfriend over marriage, saying she is unwilling to remain in a relationship that does not lead to marriage this year.
The woman explained that she believes her partner is delaying the relationship unnecessarily and insisted that financial challenges should not stop couples from taking the next step together.
Speaking in a video that has since attracted attention online, she maintained that many women are more interested in seeing genuine effort from their partners than waiting for perfect financial stability before getting married.
Why she believes money should not delay marriage
The lady said, “I’ve already told my boyfriend that if he doesn’t marry me this year, the relationship can’t continue because he’s trying to delay me. We can start from somewhere.”
She further stressed that financial status should not be the deciding factor for marriage, adding that commitment and determination matter more than wealth.
According to her, “Money is not everything to women; what matters is seeing that our man is doing something.”
She also clarified that although she is willing to support her future husband financially, she has no intention of embracing an equal split of household responsibilities.
Social media users weigh in
The woman added, “I’ve never said I won’t support my man. I will support him, but I will not do 50/50 sharing with him.”
Her remarks have since generated mixed reactions across social media platforms. While some users applauded her stance, arguing that prolonged courtships can waste valuable time, others disagreed with her rejection of a 50/50 financial arrangement, saying every relationship should be based on mutual understanding and individual circumstances.
The conversation continues online, with many Nigerians sharing differing opinions on marriage expectations, financial readiness and the roles of partners in modern relationships.
