Anambra State Governor, Chukwuma Soludo, has called on the Igbo to reconsider their political approach and build alliances with the federal government and other regions to improve their chances of producing Nigeria’s president.
Soludo said the South-East’s long-standing political ambition could be achieved through strategic engagement and cooperation rather than continued opposition to the centre.
The governor made the remarks on Thursday while speaking on the quest for an Igbo presidency.
He argued that years of protests and complaints had not yielded the desired political outcome, urging the region to adopt a different strategy.
“We (Ndi Igbo) have protested for too long, but this time, we must be part of the game. There is no prize for second or third position. Igbos will become president, but it will be by agreement,” Soludo said.
The governor also questioned how the South-East expected to secure federal intervention in addressing its infrastructure challenges without working with the administration at the centre.
He cited erosion and poor road conditions in Anambra as issues requiring cooperation with the Federal Government.

“This erosion and bad roads in Anambra, is it not President Tinubu we will meet to help intervene?” he asked.
Soludo maintained that political alliances and negotiations with other regions would be necessary for the Igbo to achieve their presidential ambition.
He said aligning with President Bola Tinubu’s administration offered a practical route towards securing the region’s political interests.
