The Delta Government has expressed satisfaction with progress on the Ayakoromo Bridge project, urging the contractor, Setraco, to sustain its efforts toward completing the project by December 2027.
The bridge is a 612-metre-long project, designed to link Ayakoromo community in Burutu Local Government Area to Egbo-Ideh community in Ughelli South Local Government Area, across River Forcados.
The Commissioner for Works (Highways and Urban Roads), Mr Reuben Izeze, gave the commendation on Thursday during an inspection of the bridge across the River Forcados.
Izeze acknowledged the challenges posed by the terrain and weather conditions but said the contractor had made appreciable progress.
“Setraco has done appreciably well, considering the weather and the terrain. However, there is still room for improvement,” he said.
He said engineers from the ministry had confirmed that construction is progressing according to schedule, adding that the quality of engineering work is encouraging.
The commissioner urged Setraco to intensify efforts to ensure the timely completion of the project for the benefit of residents.
He also commended ministry engineers for maintaining effective supervision during his temporary absence, stressing the need for continued monitoring to ensure compliance with construction standards and timelines.
“We hope Setraco will maintain the standards it is known for, keep to the agreed timeline and deliver a quality project that will serve the people,” Izeze said.
Speaking during the inspection, Setraco’s Project Manager, Mr Nabil Chahiene, expressed confidence that the bridge would be completed by December 2027.
Recall that the bridge contract was awarded on Dec. 16, 2022, at a cost of more than N39 billion to provide a vital link between the communities.
When completed, the bridge is expected to ease transportation difficulties, facilitate movement of people and goods, boost economic activities and improve access to essential services in the benefiting communities and neighbouring areas.
