Total darkness looming as AEDC announces six-hour power outage in Abuja, Niger

The Abuja Electricity Distribution Company, AEDC, has announced a six-hour planned power outage in parts of the Federal Capital Territory and Niger State on Friday.

The company disclosed this in a public notice issued on Thursday, stating that the outage would take place from 10am to 4pm.
According to AEDC, the interruption is necessary to enable its technical team to carry out scheduled maintenance and upgrade work on its power facilities.

In the FCT, the affected areas include Lugbe, Airport Road, Kapwa Village, NNPC Estate, Trademore Estate, Aco Estate, Gudu and parts of the Central Area.
In Niger State, areas listed for the outage include Suleja, Kaduna Road, Sabon Wuse, Dikko, Madalla, Zuba, Dakwa and Tungan Maje, among other neighbouring communities.

AEDC said the maintenance work forms part of its ongoing efforts to improve electricity supply, strengthen network reliability and enhance service delivery across the FCT and neighbouring areas.

The company apologised for the inconvenience the outage may cause residents and businesses, assuring customers that power supply would be restored immediately after the completion of the work.

It also advised customers in the affected areas to disconnect electrical appliances during the outage to protect them from possible damage when power is restored.
