A Lagos commuter has sparked widespread reactions online after recounting how a female passenger refused to pay her full bus fare following a heated exchange with a commercial bus conductor over a ₦100 balance.
According to the man who shared the story, the incident happened inside a danfo bus where the fare was ₦800. The woman handed the conductor ₦700 and pleaded with him to accept the amount because it was all she had.
The narrator said the conductor rejected the payment and repeatedly demanded the full fare while insulting the woman. Hoping to ease the tension, he offered to cover the ₦100 shortfall from his own change.
The woman, however, rejected the gesture, saying, “uncle, don’t pay for me. I didn’t ask for your money. Because of 100 Naira, he has insulted me enough and you still want to pay him. Didn’t you hear all the insults? Lai lai. If he can’t accept abeg, he should getaway”.
Woman reduces payment after exchange with conductor
The narrator explained that after collecting his own change, the conductor continued demanding the ₦700 from the woman.
She refused, insisting the insults had changed the situation, saying, “never. Upon all the insults wey you give me? If I pay you 700 after those insults, make I die”.
As the disagreement continued, the woman reportedly reduced the amount she was willing to pay to ₦500, declaring that the insults had effectively deducted ₦200 from the fare.

The unusual exchange amused other passengers, with one reportedly asking whether the conductor could recover the remaining money by praying for the woman instead.
Responding, the woman said, “Yes, he should work for his balance”.
According to the narrator, the conductor then spent much of the journey praying for the woman in an apparent attempt to persuade her to pay the outstanding amount, turning the encounter into a humorous moment that has since generated laughter and debate on social media.
