Guaranty Trust Holding Company Plc (GTCO) dominated trading by value on the Nigerian Exchange Limited (NGX) as investors exchanged 24.42 million shares worth N3.13 billion.
GTCO was not the most actively traded equity by volume during the session, but the N3.127 billion committed to its shares placed it comfortably ahead of the other stocks on the most-active table by transaction value.
The banking group accounted for approximately 14.6 percent of the N21.38 billion traded across the entire equities market during the session.
This means nearly N15 out of every N100 traded on the NGX was accounted for by transactions in GTCO shares.
Access Holdings recorded the highest trading volume with 57.02 million shares worth N1.61 billion, while Livestock Feeds followed with 48.03 million shares valued at N757.53 million.
GTCO ranked third by volume with 24.42 million shares but moved ahead of both companies when measured by transaction value.
UBA recorded 22.75 million shares worth N979.98 million, while Zenith Bank posted 16.67 million shares valued at N2.14 billion.
Together, the five most actively traded equities accounted for approximately 168.88 million shares, representing about 42.8 percent of the 394.20 million shares traded across the market.
Banking stocks again dominated activity with Access Holdings, GTCO, UBA and Zenith Bank accounting for four of the five most actively traded equities.
The four banks recorded a combined 120.85 million shares, equivalent to approximately 30.7 percent of total market volume.
In value terms, their combined turnover stood at approximately N7.85 billion, representing about 36.7 percent of the N21.38 billion traded across the equities market.
Overall, investors exchanged 394.20 million shares valued at N21.38 billion across 38,707 deals during the session.
The strong transaction value came despite continued weakness in the broader market with the NGX All-Share Index declining 0.09 percent to 247,513.63 points and equity market capitalisation closing at N160.708 trillion.
While Access Holdings remained the volume leader, GTCO’s N3.13 billion turnover made it the dominant stock by transaction value among the most actively traded equities.
