The Progressive Governors’ Forum (PGF) has commended President Bola Ahmed Tinubu and Nigeria’s security agencies for the successful rescue of the schoolchildren and teachers abducted from Oriire Local Government Area of Oyo State, describing the operation as a major victory against kidnapping and insecurity.
Chairman of the forum and Governor of Imo State, Senator Hope Uzodimma, gave the commendation in a statement on Friday following the release of the victims after spending 56 days in captivity.
Uzodimma said the successful operation demonstrated the Federal Government’s unwavering commitment to safeguarding the lives of Nigerians, noting that the victims were rescued unharmed without the payment of ransom or any concession to the kidnappers.
He congratulated the rescued pupils, teachers, their families, and the Government and people of Oyo State, saying their safe return had brought relief to the nation.
According to him, the rescue followed a direct directive from President Tinubu and was executed through a coordinated operation involving the Armed Forces, intelligence agencies and other security operatives, who reportedly dismantled the kidnappers’ network, arrested eight suspects and secured the unconditional release of all the captives.
“The successful rescue is a clear demonstration that this administration remains resolute in protecting every Nigerian. Criminals must understand that there will be no hiding place for kidnappers, terrorists and other enemies of peace,” Uzodimma said.
He also praised the security personnel who spent several weeks tracking the kidnappers through difficult terrain, describing their courage, professionalism and sacrifice as deserving of national recognition.
“As Chairman of the Progressive Governors’ Forum, I assure President Tinubu that all Progressive Governors remain fully committed to supporting his administration and our security agencies in the ongoing effort to rid the country of terrorism, banditry and other violent crimes,” he added.
The PGF chairman further expressed solidarity with the rescued children, teachers and their families, praying for their speedy physical and emotional recovery after the traumatic 56-day ordeal.
The rescue has been widely welcomed as a significant boost to the country’s fight against kidnapping and a reassurance of the government’s determination to strengthen national security and protect citizens across the country.
