Governor Muhammadu Inuwa Yahaya of Gombe State has inaugurated 23 commissioners, alongside newly appointed Special Advisers and Permanent Secretaries, with a charge to begin work immediately as his administration enters its final year.
The swearing-in ceremony took place on Saturday at the International Conference Centre, Gombe, where the governor urged the new officials to serve with integrity, diligence and accountability, stressing that there was no time for a prolonged transition into office.
Addressing the newly inaugurated officials, Yahaya said they were carefully selected based on merit, competence and equitable representation across the state’s Local Government Areas (LGAs) and Local Council Development Areas (LCDAs).
He reminded them that with less than one year left in the life of his administration, they must immediately begin implementing government programmes and policies aimed at improving the lives of the people.
According to the governor, every appointee has a duty to serve the public faithfully and contribute meaningfully to the successful completion of his administration’s development agenda.
Focus On Governance, Not Politics
Speaking on the political climate ahead of future elections, Yahaya said his administration would remain committed to governance rather than political distractions.
He maintained that his government would rely on its performance and achievements across the state instead of engaging in verbal exchanges with opposition parties.
According to him, completed projects and ongoing development initiatives will remain the administration’s strongest message to the electorate.
The governor commended the Gombe State House of Assembly for the speedy screening and confirmation of the commissioner nominees.
He described the harmonious relationship between the executive and legislative arms as one of the major factors responsible for the successes recorded by his administration over the last seven years.
Yahaya also applauded the state’s Permanent Secretaries for ensuring uninterrupted governance following the dissolution of the State Executive Council in April 2026.
He noted that despite the transition, public service delivery continued seamlessly across government ministries and agencies.
The governor tasked the newly appointed Special Advisers with providing innovative policy ideas and strategic guidance that would strengthen government programmes.
He equally urged the Permanent Secretaries to uphold professionalism, transparency, administrative efficiency and fiscal discipline in managing public resources.
According to him, effective collaboration between political office holders and career civil servants remains critical to achieving the administration’s objectives.
Yahaya warned all the newly inaugurated officials against corruption, abuse of office and any act capable of undermining public confidence in government.

He reminded them that public office is a sacred trust that must always be exercised in the interest of the people.
The governor also appealed to traditional rulers, community leaders, civil society organisations and other stakeholders to support the new appointees in advancing Gombe State’s development agenda.
Reflecting on the achievements of his administration, Yahaya said his government had delivered infrastructure projects, improved public service delivery and implemented socio-economic development programmes across the state’s 240 wards over the past seven years.
He expressed confidence that the administration’s record of performance would remain its greatest asset ahead of future political contests.
