The federal government has called for stronger collaboration between federal and state institutions to advance internal security reforms, improve border management, and strengthen governance across the country.
Minister of Interior, Dr. Olubunmi Tunji-Ojo, made the call while receiving members of the Conference of Speakers of State Legislatures of Nigeria, led by its Chairman and Speaker of the Delta State House of Assembly, Rt. Hon. Emomotimi Dennis Guwor, during a courtesy visit to the ministry’s headquarters in Abuja.
Tunji-Ojo said sustainable reforms in internal security and civic administration could only be achieved through effective synergy between the federal government and sub-national institutions, particularly state legislatures.
The minister commended the Conference of Speakers for its commitment to nation-building and reaffirmed the ministry’s resolve to strengthen institutional partnerships with state legislatures as critical stakeholders in governance.
He assured the delegation that its requests and proposals for collaboration would receive due consideration in line with existing government policies and national priorities.
Tunji-Ojo also reiterated the ministry’s commitment to implementing people-centered reforms aimed at enhancing national security, improving border management, and strengthening the integrity of Nigeria’s internal governance systems.
Director of Press and Public Relations, Mrs. Mary Ali, in a statement said both parties expressed commitment to sustained engagement, strategic cooperation, and collective responsibility in advancing effective governance, strengthening internal security, and improving service delivery for Nigerians.

Earlier, Guwor congratulated the minister on what he described as his reform-driven leadership, noting that his performance reflects the confidence reposed in him by President Bola Tinubu.
He said the Conference of Speakers, as representatives of state legislatures closest to the grassroots, remains a strategic partner in supporting policies and reforms that directly impact citizens.
Guwor stressed the need to deepen the existing relationship between the conference and the Ministry of Interior, particularly in areas that promote national cohesion, strengthen the country’s security architecture, and improve public service delivery.
He also reaffirmed the readiness of state Houses of Assembly to provide the necessary legislative support for the implementation of the federal government’s Renewed Hope Agenda.
