The National Association of Nigerian Students, NANS, has commended the Minister of Works, David Umahi, and President Bola Tinubu for what it described as a revolution in modern road infrastructure across the country.
NANS President, Akinteye Babatunde Afeez, gave the commendation on saturday after leading a high-powered delegation of the student body on an inspection tour of federal road projects in Ondo State.
The roads inspected include the Owo-Benin Road, the Akure-Owo Road and the Ilesa Road, which the association said are critical to the safety, welfare and academic activities of Nigerian students.
According to Afeez, thousands of students who commute daily to institutions like the Rufus Giwa Polytechnic, Owo, the Federal University of Technology, Akure, FUTA, and the University of Benin, depend on the routes.

“The Ilesa Road is equally important to commuters and students travelling within the South-West, making its condition and quality a matter of concern in our assessment of federal road infrastructure,” he said.
The NANS President said the nationwide tour was part of efforts by the association to move beyond mere demands for good roads to physically assessing ongoing federal projects, acknowledging good work and drawing attention to areas that require improvement.
He described Umahi as an “infrastructure bulldozer” for his commitment and hands-on approach to road infrastructure delivery.
“We commend the Honourable Minister of Works, Engr. David Umahi, CON, for his commitment to road infrastructure development across the country. He is, no doubt, the Infrastructure Bulldozer.
“We equally commend the President of the Federal Republic of Nigeria, President Bola Ahmed Tinubu, GCFR, for prioritising infrastructure development and initiatives that address the welfare concerns of Nigerian students,” he stated.
Afeez reiterated that NANS remains committed to constructive engagement and accountability in advancing the collective interests of Nigerian students.
