EXCLUSIVE: $1.3m US Mansion Scandal Rocks Yayi’s Governorship Ambition as Questions Mount Over Senator Adeola’s Wealth

NaijaonpointInvestigative Desk

An investigative report has raised questions about the ownership and financing of a multimillion-dollar property in Smyrna, Georgia, United States, reportedly purchased in 2017 by Senator Solomon Olamilekan Adeola, popularly known as Yayi, while he was representing Lagos West in the Nigerian Senate.

According to property records cited in the report, Adeola acquired the residence at 4112 Onslow Place SE, Smyrna, Georgia, for $793,000 in August 2017. The property is reportedly valued at approximately $1.3 million today.

The transaction has sparked questions about the source of funds used to acquire the property and whether it was properly captured in the senator’s asset declarations as required by Nigerian law.

What the Property Records Reveal

The report states that a deed recorded on August 22, 2017, under document number 201720331 in Cobb County, Georgia, identifies Solomon O. Adeola as the property’s grantee.

The property, located in the Kensington Green subdivision, is described as a five-bedroom, five-bathroom residence covering approximately 7,262 square feet and built in 2005.

The report further states that the transaction records reviewed did not indicate a mortgage amount. However, the absence of a mortgage entry alone does not conclusively establish that the property was purchased entirely with cash.

Property information cited in the investigation places the residence’s current estimated value at approximately $1.3 million, with an annual property tax bill reportedly amounting to $16,342 for 2026.

The records reportedly contain names associated with the Adeola family. Nevertheless, the precise ownership arrangements, funding sources and beneficial interests would require further documentary verification.

Questions Over the Source of Funds

Adeola acquired the property in 2017, two years after he was elected senator representing Lagos West in 2015.

The reported purchase price of $793,000 raises questions about the source of the funds used for the transaction, particularly given his position as a serving public official at the time.

The central issue is not simply whether a Nigerian public official owns property abroad, but whether the acquisition was financed through legitimate, properly documented income and whether all applicable asset declaration requirements were fulfilled.

Naijaonpointcould not independently establish from the information presented in the report whether the property was purchased using personal savings, business proceeds, other investments or another source of funding.

From Public Accounts to National Budget Oversight

Adeola is a chartered accountant who previously chaired the House of Representatives Committee on Public Accounts between 2011 and 2015.

He subsequently moved to the Senate, where he chaired the Senate Committee on Finance and later became chairman of the Senate Committee on Appropriations.

His public career has involved oversight of government finances, budgetary processes and public expenditure.

The reported acquisition of a high-value property in the United States therefore raises questions about transparency that deserve clear, evidence-based answers.

However, ownership of foreign property is not, by itself, evidence of corruption or financial misconduct.

Ogun 2027: Asset Declaration Questions

Adeola has emerged as the All Progressives Congress (APC) governorship candidate for Ogun State ahead of the 2027 election, according to the political developments described in the report.

The property revelation could place additional attention on his financial disclosures as he prepares for the governorship contest.

Under the Fifth Schedule to Nigeria’s Constitution, public officers are required to declare their assets and liabilities in accordance with the applicable rules. False declarations or failures to comply may attract legal consequences through the relevant constitutional and statutory processes.

The key question is whether the Smyrna property was declared to the Code of Conduct Bureau and whether the declaration accurately reflected the senator’s ownership interests and liabilities.

That question can only be conclusively addressed through the relevant declaration records and other verifiable documentation.

Questions Requiring Answers

The investigation raises several questions that warrant clarification:

* Was the Smyrna property included in Adeola’s asset declarations following its reported acquisition in 2017?

* What was the source of the $793,000 purchase price?

* Were the funds derived from declared income, investments, business interests or other legitimate sources?

* What do the original deed, closing documents and relevant financial records establish about the transaction?

* Has Adeola offered an explanation for the reported acquisition?

Naijaonpointwill seek a response from Senator Adeola and the Code of Conduct Bureau on the ownership, financing and declaration of the property. Any response received will be reflected in subsequent reporting.
