Minister of the Federal Capital Territory (FCT), Nyesom Wike, Rivers State Governor Siminalayi Fubara, and APC governorship candidate Kingsley Chinda have held a four-hour closed-door meeting in Port Harcourt as efforts to rebuild political relations in the state continue.
Wike and Chinda arrived at the governor’s residence in Port Harcourt on Tuesday at about 4pm, accompanied by their supporters, for the meeting with Fubara and members of his political camp.
The discussions lasted until about 8pm and brought together political figures and supporters from the two camps.
The meeting is significant as it reportedly marked the first known occasion Fubara personally hosted or participated in a reconciliation engagement involving his supporters, following years of political disagreements among the various camps.
The political crisis in Rivers State had previously resulted in prolonged disagreements between Fubara and members of the state House of Assembly, among other disputes.
The latest meeting is being seen as part of ongoing efforts to ease tensions and establish a more coordinated relationship among the previously divided political groups.
However, the participants did not disclose details of the discussions or announce any specific agreement reached.
Wike, Chinda and their supporters left the governor’s residence without addressing journalists, while Fubara and members of his team also made no public statement on the outcome of the meeting.
The issues discussed during the four-hour engagement therefore remain undisclosed.
