The National Chairman of the African Democratic Congress (ADC), Senator David A. B. Mark, GCON, has expressed profound grief over the sudden passing of Eagle Online Editor-in-Chief, Mr. Dotun Oladipo.
Senator Mark described the veteran journalist’s death as a devastating blow to Nigeria’s media landscape, acknowledging Oladipo’s substantial contributions to the advancement of journalism and the reinforcement of democratic discourse across the nation.
In a condolence statement, Senator Mark praised the late Oladipo for distinguishing himself through professionalism, courage, and unwavering dedication to the tenets of responsible journalism—particularly at a time when the media faces mounting pressure to uphold truth, accountability, and the public interest.
According to Kola Ologbodinyan, Special Adviser on Media and Publicity to the ADC National Chairman, “The sudden death of Dotun Oladipo is deeply painful and has robbed the Nigerian media of a committed professional whose contributions to journalism and national discourse will not be forgotten.
“He was a journalist who understood the enormous responsibility of the media in a democracy and consistently deployed his profession to inform the public, interrogate issues of national importance, and give voice to diverse perspectives.
“His death is not only a loss to his immediate family, friends and colleagues, but also to the wider journalism community and our nation,” Senator Mark said.
The ADC National Chairman extended his heartfelt condolences to the deceased’s family, the management and staff of Eagle Online, members of the Nigerian Union of Journalists (NUJ), the broader media fraternity, and all who mourn the late journalist.
Senator Mark urged the bereaved family to draw strength from the enduring legacy of their husband, father, colleague, and friend, and from the knowledge that he lived a life of purpose that positively impacted his profession and society.
He prayed that Almighty God would grant the family the fortitude to bear this irreparable loss and bestow eternal rest upon the soul of Mr. Dotun Oladipo.
