The Nigerian Air Force, NAF, has taken defence correspondents to the frontline in the North-East to provide firsthand insight into ongoing counter-terrorism operations under Operation HADIN KAI, in what it described as a move to deepen transparency and public trust.
The media familiarisation visit was led by the Director of Public Relations and Information, Air Commodore Ehimen Ejodame. Journalists from various media organisations participated in day and night air and ground patrols, interacted with air and ground support personnel, and shared meals with troops serving in the theatre.
According to the NAF, the initiative was designed to give the media direct exposure to the planning and execution of air operations, as well as the realities, challenges, and sacrifices of personnel working to restore peace and stability in the region.
Speaking during the visit, the Chief of the Air Staff, Air Marshal Sunday Kelvin Aneke, said transparency and credible communication are critical to sustaining public trust and ensuring balanced reporting of the efforts of military personnel.
He noted that the command philosophy is focused on building a highly motivated, professional and mission-ready force capable of delivering decisive air power in synergy with surface forces to achieve national security objectives.
The Air Component Commander, Operation HADIN KAI, Air Commodore MB Ahmed, briefed the delegation on ongoing air operations. He stressed the importance of accurate and responsible reporting in enhancing public confidence and countering misinformation.
The Theatre Commander, Joint Task Force Operation HADIN KAI, Major General AE Abubakar, also highlighted the role of the Air Component in Intelligence, Surveillance and Reconnaissance, ISR, air interdiction and air mobility missions. He said these operations have improved the flexibility, responsiveness and effectiveness of joint operations with the Nigerian Army and other security agencies.
Journalists on the tour witnessed what the NAF described as the professionalism and discipline of personnel working round the clock to protect civilians. They were also shown how precision air operations contribute to degrading terrorist capabilities and safeguarding communities in the North-East.
The NAF said the visit aligns with its commitment to openness, accountability and effective strategic communication, and will help the public better understand the sacrifices being made by troops on the frontline.
