The Youth Wing of the Christian Association of Nigeria (YOWICAN), Adamawa State Chapter, has urged Christian youths to see themselves as agents of transformation in the present, rather than merely leaders of tomorrow.
The call was made at the end of the 2026 YOWICAN Annual Convention held at EYN Church, State Low Cost, Jimeta, Yola North Local Government Area, under the theme, “Youth with Purpose.”
The three-day convention brought together Christian youths from different denominations across Adamawa State for spiritual renewal, capacity building, fellowship and networking.
Presentations at the convention focused on relationships and marriage, business, and politics, with speakers challenging the participants to make purposeful decisions that would positively influence their lives and society.
During the session on relationships and marriage, the youths were encouraged to build godly relationships founded on biblical principles, mutual respect and faithfulness, while seeking appropriate counsel and avoiding relationships capable of derailing their purpose.
The business session focused on entrepreneurship, financial responsibility, creativity and skills acquisition. Participants were urged to move beyond dependency, embrace self-employment and contribute to wealth creation while maintaining integrity and Christian values.
On politics, speakers urged Christian youths to participate responsibly in democratic governance, reject violence and thuggery, and deploy their numerical strength towards the development of society.
They were also encouraged to seek leadership positions in Adamawa State and Nigeria and use such platforms to promote good governance and positive change.
A major highlight of the convention was a talk show titled “Building Purposeful Synergies: Mobilising Denominational Unity for Social Impact,” where speakers stressed the need for Christian youths across denominations to work together in areas such as education, poverty reduction, peacebuilding and community development.
The convention also featured a cultural display showcasing the diversity of Adamawa State, while a Night of Praise provided an opportunity for worship, thanksgiving and prayers for youths, families, churches and the state.
In a communiqué signed by the Chairman of YOWICAN Adamawa State Chapter, Rev. (Dr.) Gabriel L. Shall, participants resolved to remain committed to Jesus Christ, promote unity among Christian youths, build healthy relationships, acquire skills and embrace entrepreneurship.
They also resolved to participate responsibly in politics and governance, reject violence, cultism, drug abuse and thuggery, promote peaceful coexistence, use their talents for positive social impact and strengthen collaboration among denominational youth bodies.
The communiqué said the convention had reaffirmed that Christian youths were not merely leaders of tomorrow but important agents of transformation today.
The organisers appreciated God, the Christian Association of Nigeria leadership, speakers, partners, volunteers and participants for contributing to the success of the convention.
The event ended with a renewed commitment to faith, purpose, unity, service and positive social impact.
