BREAKING: Tsunami Hits Zamfara As Tinubu Campaign DG’s Ally And 8 Other Lawmakers Dump APC For ADC

Nine members of the Zamfara State House of Assembly have dumped the All Progressives Congress and defected to the African Democratic Congress.

Recall that the lawmakers had been in disagreement with Governor Dauda Lawal for more than two years over what they described as his lack of concern about the security situation in the state.

Those who defected are Aliyu Ango Kagara, representing Talata Mafara South; Muktar Nasir, representing Kaura Namoda North; Faruk Dosara Musa of Maradun I; and Basiru Bello of Bungudu West.

Others are Bashir A. Masama of Bukkuyum North; Ibrahim T. Tukur of Bakura; Nasiru Abdullahi of Maru North; Yusuf Muhammad Anka of Anka; and Bashar Aliyu of Gummi I.

Speaking on behalf of the defecting lawmakers, Kagara, who represents Talata Mafara North constituency, said their disagreement with the governor stemmed from what he described as his lack of concern over security challenges affecting the state.

He explained that their decision to raise concerns about insecurity on the floor of the Assembly did not go down well with the governor, resulting in disagreements and their subsequent suspension.

“Because of the lack of security and lack of concern for the people of Zamfara, we raised the issue in the House, which did not go down well with the governor. That was why we had issues with him, which led to our suspension and later defection to the APC,” Kagara said.

The lawmaker, however, alleged that joining the APC did not resolve their grievances, claiming that some party leaders conspired against them and denied them a fair hearing.

All efforts to obtain comments from the Zamfara State Government and House of Assembly were unsuccessful, as their media aides, Mustafa Kaura and Bello Madaro, could not be reached after several attempts.

Earlier, five members, representing Maradun I, Maru North, Talata-Mafara South, Bukkuyum North and Bakura constituencies, announced their resignations in separate letters dated October 4, 2026.

They addressed their resignation letters to the APC ward chairmen in their respective constituencies.

The development was disclosed by a former chairman of Bukkuyum Local Government Area, Umar A. Faru, who shared copies of the resignation letters.

In the letters, the lawmakers said their decision followed “careful and wide consultations” with stakeholders.

Dosara, in his letter, said the party had been weakened by internal divisions and uncertainty.

He cited “lack of unity among the party stakeholders in the state, deception, uncertainties, injustice and inability of the government to overcome the security situation” in his constituency and the state.

Dosara also accused the governor of a “nonchalant attitude” and poor leadership.

The member representing Maru North Constituency, Abdullahi, said his resignation was prompted by similar concerns, including insecurity, injustice and what he described as poor governance.

“I hereby resign my membership from the All Progressives Congress (APC) with immediate effect,” Abdullahi stated in his letter.

The member representing Talata-Mafara South Constituency, Kagara, cited the inability of the government to address insecurity as one of the reasons for his resignation.

The member representing Bukkuyum North Constituency, Masama, and his Bakura counterpart, Tukur, gave virtually identical reasons for leaving the APC.

Tukur said his decision followed concerns over “lack of unity among the party stakeholders in the state, deception, uncertainties, injustice and inability of the government to overcome security situation.”
