The African Democratic Congress (ADC) has launched a fresh attack on the administration of President Bola Tinubu, accusing it of failing to address Nigeria’s mounting economic and security challenges while criticising citizens who relocated abroad in search of better opportunities.
The party’s National Publicity Secretary, Bolaji Abdullahi, made the remarks in a post shared on his X account on Sunday.
According to Abdullahi, the current administration has failed across critical sectors, including security, the economy, healthcare and education, leaving many Nigerians with no option but to seek better lives outside the country.
He argued that rather than blaming Nigerians who have emigrated, popularly referred to as those who have “japa’d,” the government should focus on creating conditions that would encourage citizens to remain and thrive at home.
“It is sad that this government, which has shown such disdain for everyday Nigerians struggling under the weight of its failures, has now chosen to extend that same disregard to honest Nigerians who have japa’d in search of better opportunities,” he wrote.
The ADC spokesman maintained that the Tinubu administration lacks the moral authority to claim that Nigerians are better off at home while many continue to grapple with insecurity, unemployment and rising living costs.
He accused the government of failing in virtually every area that directly affects the welfare of citizens.

“A government that has failed, and continues to fail, on security, the economy, healthcare, education, and virtually every measure of human dignity has no business telling Nigerians and the world that life is better in Nigeria than it is for Nigerians living abroad,” Abdullahi stated.
He urged the Federal Government to prioritise restoring security, creating jobs, stabilising the economy and rebuilding public confidence instead of criticising citizens who had sought opportunities elsewhere.
“Until this government can guarantee safety, create jobs, restore economic stability, and inspire confidence at home, it should either fix Nigeria or stop lecturing Nigerians who have simply done what the government itself has failed to do — secure a better future for themselves and their families,” he added.
To underscore the importance of Nigerians living abroad, Abdullahi pointed to official economic figures, noting that diaspora remittances remain a major source of foreign exchange for the country.
He observed that while Nigeria recorded $31.5 billion in oil export earnings in 2025, official diaspora remittances for the same period stood at $21.8 billion, demonstrating the significant contribution of Nigerians abroad to the nation’s economy.
