Nigeria’s First Lady, Senator Oluremi Tinubu, has received a new traditional title in Imo State, where she was honoured as the ‘Oso Di Eme I’ of the state.
The title was announced on Wednesday by Busola Kukoyi, Senior Special Adviser to the First Lady on Media, in a post on 𝕏 accompanied by photographs from the ceremony.
In the images, Oluremi Tinubu was seen dressed in colourful traditional attire decorated with symbols associated with the All Progressives Congress (APC) and the Nigerian flag.
She complemented the outfit with a red headwrap and coral beads while holding a ceremonial fan bearing the inscription “OSO DI EME”, alongside a white horsetail flywhisk.
Kukoyi explained that the title translates to “She who supports her husband,” while praising the First Lady for her role alongside President Bola Tinubu.
She wrote: “Oso Di Eme 1 of Imo State meaning ‘She who supports her husband.’
“A worthy partner of her husband, President Bola Ahmed Tinubu, GCFR. As he’s working, she is working!!!! Her Excellency Senator Oluremi Tinubu, CON First Lady of the Federal Republic of Nigeria.”
The traditional recognition comes amid continued public discussion over the activities and expenditure associated with the Office of the First Lady.
In a separate development, President and Convener of the Transparency and Accountability Group, Comrade Ayo Ologun, has called for an investigation into the use of public funds for Oluremi Tinubu’s foreign trips.

Ologun’s call followed records from GovSpend indicating that $553,884 was released as foreign exchange for overseas trips involving the First Lady between 2023 and 2024.
Speaking to Daily Trust, he questioned the legal basis for funding the trips, arguing that the Office of the First Lady is not established as a separate government office under Nigerian law or provided for as an independent office in the national budget.
According to him, the issue goes beyond determining whether financial regulations were followed, insisting that authorities should also examine whether public funds are being unnecessarily expended.
The call for an investigation has added another dimension to public debate surrounding the official activities and funding associated with the First Lady.
