UK updates list of employers licensed to sponsor Nigerian, foreign workers

The United Kingdom Government has updated its official register of employers licensed to sponsor foreign workers, providing prospective Nigerian and other international jobseekers with a current list of organisations authorised to sponsor eligible workers.

The Register of Licensed Sponsors: Workers, published on the UK Government’s official website, contains organisations authorised to sponsor workers under the country’s Worker and Temporary Worker immigration routes.

According to the UK Government, the latest version of the register was updated on September 4, 2026.

The register provides a useful starting point for Nigerians and other people outside the UK seeking employment that could potentially lead to visa sponsorship.

Jobseekers can use the list to identify licensed employers, research their organisations and check their career pages for vacancies that match their qualifications and experience.

The register can also help applicants narrow their search by confirming whether a prospective employer currently holds a valid sponsor licence.

However, inclusion on the register does not mean that an employer will sponsor every foreign worker or every vacancy it advertises.

A sponsor licence only confirms that an organisation is authorised to sponsor eligible workers. Whether sponsorship is available for a particular position depends on the nature of the job, the applicant’s eligibility, applicable immigration rules and the employer’s decision.

Jobseekers are therefore advised to treat the register as a research tool rather than a guarantee of visa sponsorship.

After identifying a potential employer, applicants should check individual vacancies carefully, including the job title, duties, qualifications, experience, salary, location and other eligibility requirements.

They should also confirm whether the employer explicitly offers visa sponsorship for the position and whether the role qualifies under the relevant UK immigration route.

The UK Government updates the sponsor register periodically, making it important for jobseekers to consult the latest version when searching for employment.

The official Register of Licensed Sponsors: Workers is available through the UK Government’s GOV.UK website.

For Nigerians seeking employment in the UK, the updated register can make the job search more targeted and help identify potential sponsoring employers. However, applicants must verify sponsorship availability for each vacancy and check the latest immigration requirements before applying.
