A prominent chieftain of the All Progressives Congress (APC) in Adamawa State, Abdulrahman Haske, has resigned from the party and moved to the Allied Peoples Movement (APM) ahead of the 2027 governorship election.
Haske formally announced his defection on Saturday at an event attended by political stakeholders, traditional and community leaders, youth and women groups, as well as supporters drawn from the 21 local government areas of the state.
His move comes days after reports emerged that he was preparing to leave the APC, where he had been one of the leading contenders for the party’s governorship ticket.
Following his defection, Haske has reportedly secured the APM governorship ticket for the 2027 election.
Explaining his decision, the former APC chieftain said his political move was driven by his commitment to service, principle and the aspirations of the people of Adamawa.
He said he was convinced that the APM provided a more credible platform through which he could pursue a development agenda focused on the people and work towards a more prosperous, inclusive and secure state.
Haske also expressed appreciation to the national and state leadership of the APM for accepting him and entrusting him with the responsibility of representing the party in the governorship election.
“I am deeply grateful to the leadership of the Allied Peoples Movement for their belief in our shared vision and for entrusting me with the responsibility of carrying the party’s flag in the 2027 governorship election.
“I accept this mandate with humility and an unwavering determination to justify this confidence through integrity, hard work, and dedicated service to the people of Adamawa State,” he said.

The APM National Chairman, Yusuf Mamman Dantalle, welcomed Haske into the party, describing him as a politician whose philosophy was consistent with the APM’s progressive ideals and emphasis on people-centred governance.
Haske’s defection is expected to add another dimension to the political contest in Adamawa State as parties begin to position themselves for the 2027 governorship election.
The event ended with party leaders, supporters and stakeholders calling for unity and collective efforts to strengthen the APM ahead of the election.
