Speaker of the House of Representatives, Hon Tajudeen Abbas, has expressed deep sadness over the death of former governor of the defunct Gongola State, Alhaji Bamanga Muhammad Tukur.
Tukur, a prominent businessman, politician and elder statesman, died on Saturday, three days before his 91st birthday.
In a condolence message issued by his Special Adviser on Media and Publicity, Musa Abdullahi Krishi, Abbas described the former governor’s death as a major loss to Nigeria’s political and business communities.
The Speaker said Tukur left behind an enduring legacy through his contributions to public administration, governance, industry, politics and pan-African business leadership.
According to Abbas, the late politician was not only an accomplished businessman and statesman but also a devoted Muslim who used his resources to promote Islam and improve the lives of others.
He further commended Tukur’s contributions to Nigeria’s democratic development during his tenure as national chairman of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), saying he played a significant role in strengthening democratic and political practices in the country.
Abbas extended his condolences to Tukur’s family, community, political and business associates, as well as the governments and people of Adamawa and Taraba states.
He prayed to Allah to forgive the deceased’s shortcomings and grant him Aljannatul Firdausi.
