2027: ‘I’ll defeat my father, deliver Adamawa to Tinubu’ – Atiku’s son, Abba declares

Abba Atiku Abubakar, son of former Vice-President and African Democratic Congress (ADC) presidential candidate Atiku Abubakar, has pledged to mobilise support for President Bola Tinubu’s re-election bid in Adamawa State ahead of the 2027 general elections.

Abba, who heads the pro-Tinubu group Haske Bola Tinubu Organisation (HBTO), made the declaration on Friday during the unveiling of the organisation’s vision at the All Progressives Congress (APC) national secretariat in Abuja.

The event also featured the launch of the group’s subsidised transport scheme in the Federal Capital Territory (FCT).

Speaking on his decision to support Tinubu despite his father’s presidential ambition, Abba said political choices were matters of personal conviction and individual freedom.

He maintained that family relationships should not prevent people from independently deciding which political leaders or parties to support.

“I recognise that political decisions, particularly those that differ from the positions of individuals with whom one shares personal and family relationships, often attract considerable public attention.

“However, political conviction is a matter of personal judgment, conscience, and the freedom of every individual to make independent choices,” he said.

Abba disclosed that he had supported his father’s presidential campaigns in 2019 and 2023 but said his assessment of the Tinubu administration’s policies and reforms had influenced his current political position.

“It’s not just because it’s my father. I don’t think I am antagonising him; I simply believe in the current government’s policies and the reforms taking place,” he stated.

Asked whether his organisation could secure Adamawa State for the APC in 2027, Abba expressed confidence in its mobilisation capacity.

“Yes, yes, yes. We are going to deliver Adamawa State,” he declared.

The HBTO leader praised several initiatives of the Tinubu administration, including the student loan scheme, infrastructure projects, increased allocations to state governments and transport support programmes.

As part of the organisation’s activities, he unveiled 10 luxury buses for subsidised commuter services, with the scheme initially commencing in the FCT.

According to him, the organisation plans to expand the initiative to other states, with five or six buses expected to be provided in each state as the programme grows.

He said the transport scheme was designed to reduce commuting costs and ease the difficulties faced by ordinary Nigerians.

Abba also announced plans for a two-million-man march across Nigeria’s six geopolitical zones, with the mobilisation exercise scheduled to begin in Abuja.

He further disclosed that the organisation was working with FCT Minister Nyesom Wike to mobilise support for Tinubu in the FCT and Rivers State.

According to him, the group’s political structures in Rivers would be activated for a mobilisation exercise the following week.

He expressed appreciation to the APC leadership and members for welcoming the organisation.
