A Nigerian woman has taken to social media to call out a man identified as Othniel Kenneth, accusing him of impregnating her when she was 16 and refusing to take responsibility for their child for several years.
According to the woman, Kenneth got her pregnant when she was 16 and asked her to terminate the pregnancy. She said she did not understand what abortion was at the time and did not know how or where to get the drugs.
She said Kenneth later disappeared from Otukpo and did not take responsibility for the child.
Years later, Kenneth reportedly contacted her and asked to meet so they could discuss his responsibilities towards their son.
The woman said their son is now seven years old and will turn eight in December. She explained that the child currently bears her father’s surname because he has been staying with her parents.
According to her, Kenneth told her that the child’s surname must be changed to his own before he would begin taking responsibility for him.
She said:
“When I was 16years old, You got me pregnant, You said I should abort the baby i told you i dont know what is abortion i dont even know how and where I would get the drugs from and i dont know how I would go about it since 2018 till date you refused to take responsibility that was how you disappeared you disappeared from Otukpo that was not even my problem after so many years, this guy came back, after so many years, this boy that you are seeing is already 7 years and by December he would be 8years, this boy (Her son) is using my father’s name as his surname so last year, this guy said we should meet up so that we can talk about the responsibility of the child I said no problem, I dont even know how he got my contact, i dont even know how he reached out to me.
“Last year I was on my own when he called then i asked who is this, he said he is kenneth, and i was like which kenneth Ojobor that was when he started telling me that you dont know me again and i said me i thought you are dead oh, he said No he id not dead and i said no problem, Kenneth called me and told me we should meet and i told him i wont come and meet him despite the fact that both of us are in abuja here and we are in the same state, I cannot come and see you he said no problem, he would come and see me that day it was on sunday, I did not go to church and i said Okay lets meet in the morning because I have something to do later he said no problem, around 9 am he called me and said that he is already in Kubwa I said no problem, Just hang around, anywhere i would come and meet you after 2 hours, I showered i prepared everything then i Left the house, I left with my present boyfriend then i went to Kenneth when i went to meet him, Imagine what this stupid boy told me that which name is the boy (Their child) using I said i gave him my tribal name he the asked which surname is he using i tell am say na agagba which is my daddy’s name na he said no his son cannot bear agagba that the boy cannot be answering my fathers name i said Okay no problem i know he is your son i would not even deny you he said no that I must change his name to his own name which is kenneth i told him no problem… changing of the name is not my problem he then told me that when i change the name, he would start taking responsibility i told him no problem that changing the name is not an issue that okay if i want to change the name since this boy is not staying with me he used to come for holiday and I said since he is not staying with me and he is staying with my parents, Now go and visit my parent because my parent dont even know this guy my mom, dad sisters brothers they dont even know you and thank God my father has never disturbed me that where is the boy father who is the person that Impregnated you and i said okay for you to give them that respect, Go to our village tell them that you are sorry that you are the one that got their daughter pregnant This guy open mouth tell me say he no go fit go meet my parents saying that shey na him and my parents get something?? say shey na my mama he give belle say he does not have any business with my parents say anything wey we wan dey talk about the boy make we dey talk am say no need to go see my parents say they are not involved in this”
The woman said she had no problem with changing the child’s surname because she recognised Kenneth as the father. However, she wanted him to meet her parents and acknowledge them before taking responsibility for the child.
She explained that her parents had cared for the boy and that Kenneth had never met them. She therefore felt that visiting them and apologising for what happened would be a sign of respect.
The woman also shared another incident involving Kenneth.
She said he once called her and told her that he had visited a church where a prophet told him that he had offended someone and needed to apologise.
The woman questioned why he considered her his problem and told him to focus on taking care of their son.
She continued:
“I said how how am i Your problem, he then said that his prophet told him that he offended someone ad then he needs to apologize to the person and i told him, I no be god, take care of your son carry the responsibility on your shoulder”
The woman has now shared her experience publicly, explaining how the situation has affected her and her son over the years.
