Over 2,600 Non-Governmental Organizations (NGOs) in Bauchi State, in collaboration with the Women Coalition for Sustainable Peace and Viable Democratic Gains and the Baheejah Mahmood Support Association (BAMASA), have endorsed Hajiya Baheejah Mahmood Abdullahi, popularly known as Mai Dankwali, as the Peoples Redemption Party (PRP) deputy governorship candidate alongside Senator Shehu Buba Umar.
In a statement distributed to newsmen in Bauchi and signed by Hajiya Halima Nuhu Mohammed, the groups said the decision was reached at the end of their meeting.
“We believe that the Peoples Redemption Party (PRP) embodies the ideals and principles that Senator Shehu Buba Umar and Hajiya Baheejah Mahmood Abdullahi have championed throughout their years of public service,” the statement said.
The women groups noted that the PRP remains one of the few political parties whose philosophy is centred on justice, equity, accountability, inclusion, good governance, and sustainable development for all, regardless of gender, age, religion, ethnicity, or social status.
“These values resonate strongly with the duo’s lifelong commitment to grassroots empowerment, humanitarian service, social welfare, and community development,” they added.
The groups expressed confidence that a Shehu Buba Umar/Baheejah Mahmood ticket would provide purposeful, people-centred leadership capable of advancing peace, prosperity, and inclusive development across Bauchi State.
“Our endorsement of Hajiya Baheejah as running mate to Senator Shehu Buba Umar is based on her years of dedicated service, selfless sacrifice, and exceptional commitment to the people of Bauchi State,” the statement said.
“She has consistently championed the cause of women, youth, children, orphans, vulnerable persons, and grassroots communities through her various humanitarian and development initiatives. Her contributions have touched thousands of lives across the 20 Local Government Areas of Bauchi State.”
The groups said the time has come for Bauchi State to reciprocate that commitment through leadership. “This is not merely a political endorsement, it is a recognition of a lifetime of service. We therefore affirm our total support for Mai Dankwali, ta Marayu, da Mata, da Matasa,” they declared.
They added that their support extends beyond organizational endorsement, with members, families, and supporters committed to mobilizing lawful and peaceful democratic participation for the ticket.
The groups also called on community-based organizations, civil society organizations, professional associations, faith-based organizations, women and youth groups, and local and international NGOs to join the movement in support of inclusive leadership and grassroots development.
“Our collective vision is a Bauchi State where women, youth, children, and vulnerable communities are represented at the highest levels of decision-making and governance,” the statement said.
Halima described Hajiya Baheejah as a grassroots politician, women mobilizer, and strong political advocate known for her doggedness, experience, and commitment to women and children.
She recalled that Baheejah led the establishment of the Bauchi State Orphans and Vulnerable Children Agency during the administration of Mallam Isa Yuguda. She said Baheejah enjoys the support of thousands of women groups and NGOs, as well as PRP stakeholders from the northern zone.
“Consultations with many PRP stakeholders show that appointing Baheejah as Deputy Governor would be one of the best decisions for strengthening the state’s political structure and accelerating development. It will also demonstrate gender balance,” Halima said.
The statement further described Baheejah as a highly experienced, competent, and visionary leader with a deep understanding of governance and public service. “Over the years, she has worked closely with the people and gained a clear understanding of their needs and challenges. Her strong connection with communities across Bauchi State will greatly enhance grassroots mobilization and contribute significantly to a successful political campaign.”
The supporters concluded: “There is no doubt that the emergence of Baheejah as Deputy Governor will provide Senator Shehu Buba Umar with greater support, confidence, and administrative strength. As the saying goes, ‘with a capable deputy, half the work is already accomplished.’ If the PRP gives her the chance, we firmly believe her wisdom, leadership skills, dedication, integrity, and experience will add value and credibility to the administration.”
