How Ademola Adeleke became Osun State Governor
Ademola Adeleke contested the 2018 Osun governorship election under the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP).
He was declared the winner initially, but INEC ruled the election inconclusive. After a rerun on September 27, 2018, his opponent Gboyega Oyetola of the All Progressive Congress (APC) was pronounced winner.
On July 16, 2022, he contested and defeated the incumbent governor, Adegboyega Oyetola, with 403,371 votes, winning 17 LGAs.
Oyetola challenged the result, but the Court of Appeal and later the Supreme Court affirmed Adeleke’s victory.
He was sworn in as the 6th democratically elected governor of Osun State on Sunday, 27 November 2022 by the State Chief Judge at Osogbo Township Stadium.
On 16 August 2026, he was re-elected governor under the Accord Party. INEC declared him winner after polling 511,067 votes to defeat APC’s Bola Oyebamiji who got 444,815 votes.
