Vienna: Mosque in which jihad murderer was active and which supported in his jihad activities is reopened

The Tewhid mosque was the place “in which the Vienna assassin stayed several times and where, according to the assessment of the security authorities, his radicalization was favored.”

Yet now it has reopened. Do Austrian authorities, and authorities in France as well, really think that closing mosques for a few weeks is going to deter jihadis from jihad activity? Do they really think that the Tewhid mosque (and the mosque that was just reopened in France) will now preach loyalty to the non-Muslim government and the necessity of adherence to secular laws? They’re in for a rude surprise.

VIENNA. After another arrest in the case of the Islamist attack in Vienna last autumn, suspicions have been reinforced that the attacker was part of a network. As it became known at the weekend, the Austrian special unit “Cobra” arrested a 21-year-old Austrian with Egyptian roots on Friday morning.

He is suspected of having procured the assault rifle with which Kujtim F. killed four people and injured several others on November 2, 2020. The now-arrested suspect lived, like the assassin, on welfare. In the meantime, more than 20 Islamists, including those in Switzerland, have been arrested who are said to be part of a network.

The assassin also had contacts in Germany
According to the German security authorities, Kujtim F. also had close ties to Germany. Muslims in Osnabrück kept in touch with him via Facebook and Instagram until shortly before the attack in early November. The group maintained a secret prayer room and organized paintball games in Rheine, Westphalia, among other places, in order to train the fight against “infidels.”

Meanwhile, the reopening of a Viennese mosque that was closed after the attack is causing criticism. The assassin is also said to have been active in the Tewhid mosque. The internal arbitration tribunal of the Islamic Faith Community in Austria (IGGÖ) decided to give the community back legal personality.
