US Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) has announced plans to deport Nigerian national Ayodeji Olamide Ajayi, citing his extensive criminal history and immigration violations after he allegedly remained in the country illegally following the expiration of his student status.
According to ICE, Ajayi entered the United States on a student visa in 2007 but failed to leave the country after discontinuing his studies. The agency said he subsequently accumulated several criminal convictions, including domestic violence, trespassing, intimidation and obstruction.
ICE also alleged that Ajayi’s criminal record includes more serious offences such as kidnapping, rape and family neglect. The agency stated that his impending deportation aligns with the immigration enforcement policies of US President Donald Trump aimed at removing criminal undocumented immigrants from the country.
The deportation announcement follows reports from May 2024 linking a 39-year-old man identified as Ayodeji Olamide Ajayi to a police standoff in Bradley County, Tennessee. Authorities said he was wanted on aggravated rape charges and initially refused to surrender, claiming to possess a firearm.
Law enforcement officers later arrested Ajayi and discovered he was carrying a toy BB pistol resembling a real gun. He was subsequently charged with multiple offences, including aggravated rape, rape, aggravated burglary, sexual battery, aggravated kidnapping and domestic assault.
