“UPTH, thank you for the negligence” — Woman accuses hospital of negligence after sister’s death

A woman has taken to social media to accuse the University of Port Harcourt Teaching Hospital (UPTH), Rivers State, of negligence after her sister reportedly died at the facility.

In a viral video shared on social media, the woman expressed anger and grief while alleging that her sister had been left unattended in the hospital’s emergency ward for several days.

Woman alleges lack of medical attention

According to the woman, they arrived at the emergency ward on Thursday but, despite her sister’s worsening condition, no doctor attended to her.

She said her sister spent the following days in pain and repeatedly complained that she was sick and needed a drip.

She said: “Thank you. God bless you. Thanks for the negligence.

“Thanks for not caring. We came here since Thursday. Since Thursday we came to emergency ward.

“Since that Thursday no doctor has attended to us. My sister was crying all through yesterday. Because she is sick, she needs drip. Nobody, no doctor.”

Woman recounts alleged encounter with doctors

The woman further alleged that when they sought help from some doctors at the emergency ward, they were told that the doctors were tired and needed rest.

She said: “Even on Thursday that we came to the emergency ward.

“We saw some stupid doctors here. Doctors that think that they have their own lives in their hands. We called them, please come.

“All they could say, I’m tired, I need rest, I did this one, I did this one. I cannot attend to her.

“Seeing how she is, nobody came.”

‘My sister never wanted to die’

The woman also accused the hospital of failing to respond to her sister’s pleas for treatment, saying her sister had repeatedly complained about being sick.

She said: “UPTH, thank you so much. Even on Thursday my sister was saying that she is weak. That she needs drip.

“My sister never wanted to die. Never wanted to die. But the will of God has been done.”
