Minister of Works David Umahi has hit back at critics alleging that he diverted federal road projects exclusively to the South-East, claiming there is a coordinated attempt to gag him on social media.
Umahi strongly denied the claims during an inspection tour of the Trans-Sahara Highway, a major project stretching from Afikpo in Ebonyi State through Benue, Nsukka, and parts of Kogi, before terminating near the Federal Capital Territory.
Addressing the accusations, the minister maintained that all infrastructure distributions follow transparent guidelines under President Bola Tinubu’s administration. He pointed out that official publications detailing ongoing projects across the country are publicly accessible.
“They want to gag me on social media when they say I cornered all the road projects to the South-East. That is very wonderful. But we have publication of all projects ongoing,” Umahi stated.
He suggested that the criticism stems from political opposition and discomfort over the region finally receiving a fair share of national infrastructure development.
“Some people are not happy that, for the first time, South-East people are getting their own share of the infrastructure of our nation. So, there is nothing like that,” he added.
Reiterating the region’s developmental standing, Umahi noted that while the South-East may not always lead in every phase of infrastructure allocation, it is far from being marginalized under the current administration.
