UK: Conservative Party suspends councillor for retweeting ‘Islamophobic posts’ on Twitter

The BBC doesn’t dare tell its readers what Flood said, or retweeted, but the Ipswich Star informs us that there were two tweets Flood retweeted: “One called for Islam to be banned in the UK and another said Islam was a faith that does not allow free speech.”

Calling for Islam to be banned in the UK is harsh indeed, and contradicts the nation’s principle of freedom of religion. At the same time, Britain will one day have to come to grips with the fact that they have a large and growing population of people who don’t believe in the freedom of speech, or equality of rights for women, or the freedom of conscience, or much more that Britons have taken for granted for decades or centuries. Britain will at some point become a Sharia state or make it clear that it rejects some aspects of Sharia. This choice will at some point become inevitable.

And Islamic law mandates death for criticizing Allah, Muhammad, the Qur’an or Islam. So Flood was right. Telling the truth is now forbidden in Britain.

“Tories suspend Ipswich councillor over alleged Islamophobic tweets,” BBC, August 21, 2022:

A Conservative councillor has been suspended from the group after sharing alleged Islamophobic posts on Twitter.

Steve Flood, who represents the Sprites ward on Ipswich Borough Council, allegedly shared tweets that criticised Islam on his account.

Ipswich Conservative Association suspended him from the group on Friday and his Conservative Party membership will be be discussed on Wednesday….

In a statement, the Conservative Association said: “On Friday morning the Ipswich Conservative Association suspended Councillor Steve Flood following allegations that appeared in the press on Thursday.

“The suspension includes removal of the whip from the Conservative group at the borough council.

“Councillor Flood will appear before the executive of the association at a meeting due to be held on Wednesday 24th August. Following this meeting a decision will be made as to the future of [his] membership of the Conservative Party.

“We take extremely seriously any allegation made against a party member, especially those in elected positions and will deal with them swiftly.”

“Ipswich councillor suspended by Tories after Islamophobic retweets,” by Paul Geater, Ipswich Star, August 20, 2022:

An Ipswich councillor who shared Islamophobic tweets has been suspended by the Conservative Party – and could face the possibility of expulsion at a special meeting on Wednesday.

Earlier this week we revealed that Steve Flood, councillor for Sprites ward, had retweeted two Twitter posts that were widely seen as Islamophobic. One called for Islam to be banned in the UK and another said Islam was a faith that does not allow free speech.

Ipswich MP Tom Hunt expressed his outrage at the posts being retweeted – saying they were clearly Islamophobic and there was no place for them in a mainstream political party….
