Former President of the Ijaw Youth Council (IYC) and former Bayelsa State Commissioner, Engr. Udengs Eradiri, has donated a transformer valued at approximately ₦7 million to residents of IYC Street, Azikoro Town, Yenagoa, Bayelsa State.
Eradiri also paid ₦2.5 million towards the installation of the transformer, bringing the total value of his latest intervention to approximately ₦9.5 million.
The intervention is expected to help end a power crisis that has plagued residents of IYC Street and adjoining areas for more than five years.
Residents had been experiencing prolonged electricity challenges due to a faulty and overloaded transformer, affecting households, landlords, businesses and other activities within the community.
The newly donated transformer is expected to improve power supply and provide significant relief to residents who have endured years of inadequate electricity.
Speaking on behalf of the landlords and residents of IYC Street, Hon. Ogidi Ben Bara expressed appreciation to Eradiri for the intervention, describing it as a demonstration of his commitment to community development and the welfare of the people.
Ogidi noted that the former IYC President had previously contributed to addressing electricity challenges in the area.
«“This is not the second time Udengs Eradiri is doing this. The transformer that has been serving IYC and other parts of this area was also donated by him. Today, he has once again come to our rescue with another transformer worth about ₦7 million,” Ogidi said.»
He commended Eradiri for responding to the needs of the community at a time when many residents continue to grapple with inadequate electricity supply and other infrastructure challenges.
Ogidi further called on political leaders, business owners and other well-meaning Bayelsans to emulate the gesture by supporting projects that have a direct impact on the lives of people in their communities.
He stressed that although the government has a primary responsibility to provide infrastructure and basic amenities, individuals and community leaders with the capacity to assist should also contribute to development.
«“We cannot wait for government all the time. Government has its responsibilities, but individuals and leaders who have the capacity can also make meaningful contributions to their communities. What Udengs has done today is worthy of emulation,” he added.»
The installation of the transformer is expected to bring renewed hope to landlords, residents and businesses on IYC Street, following years of unreliable electricity supply.
The intervention has also highlighted the importance of community-driven development initiatives, with residents urging other individuals and organisations to support efforts aimed at improving basic infrastructure across Bayelsa State.
