Akeem Ajakaye Remanded In Kirikiri Over Alleged Attack On Kolawole Oluakamo In Lagos

A 49-year old man, Akeem Ajakaye, was arraigned before a Magistrate Court sitting in Ejigbo Magisterial District, Lagos State, on a seven-count charge filed by the Commissioner of Police with Charge No. 163/2026.

The matter was investigated at Isheri Oshun Divisional Headquarters. Inspector Abiola Anthony was listed as the Investigating Police Officer, while SP Grace Ogbonoko was listed as the Divisional Police Officer in charge.

According to the charge sheet, Akeem Ajakaye and others now at large allegedly conspired at about 12:03hrs on September 20, 2025, at Tailor Bus Stop, Ijagemo, to commit felony, contrary to Section 411 of the Criminal Law of Lagos State, 2015.

Count two alleged that Akeem Ajakaye and others at large unlawfully assaulted Kolawole Oluakamo with fist blows, kicks, plank, shovel and cutlass, punishable under Section 172.

Count three alleged that the alleged assault caused bodily harm all over the body of Kolawole Oluakamo, punishable under Section 173.

Count four alleged stealing. The Police alleged that Akeem Ajakaye and others at large stole N105,000 cash, one wristwatch valued at N69,999 and one Cuban gold chain valued at N1,575,000 belonging to Kolawole Oluakamo, contrary to Section 280 and punishable under Section 287.

Count five alleged that the suspects wilfully and unlawfully damaged a school office gate valued at N70,000 and destroyed cloth belonging to Kolawole Oluakamo valued at N35,000, punishable under Section 350.

Count six alleged that Akeem Ajakaye threatened to kill Kolawole Oluakamo, punishable under Section 56, while count seven alleged that he unlawfully displayed offensive weapons including plank wood, shovel and cutlass in public in a manner likely to cause terror, punishable under Section 51.

He pleaded not guilty to all seven counts.

The prosecutor, SP Benedict Aigbokan, opposed bail and urged the court to remand the defendant.

The defence counsel, Barr. Kemi, however, applied for bail on liberal terms, arguing that the defendant is presumed innocent.

In his ruling, Magistrate A.K. Dosunmu Uthman, presiding over the court sitting in Ejigbo, granted bail to Akeem Ajakaye in the sum of N1,000,000 with two sureties in like sum.

The magistrate ordered that the sureties must show evidence of means of livelihood and evidence of tax payment to the Lagos State Government.

He further ordered that Akeem Ajakaye be remanded in custody at the Correctional Centre at Kirikiri Town pending the perfection of his bail conditions.

The case was adjourned to a later date for mention.

Meanwhile, residents of Ijagemo have praised the Nigeria Police Force, the Divisional Police Officer in charge of Isheri Oshun Division and the Area Commander for their professionalism and swift action in apprehending the suspect who was alleged to have been on the run after the attack.

According to the residents, the prompt arrest of Akeem Ajakaye has restored confidence and calm in the community.

Police said efforts are ongoing to apprehend other suspects who are now at large in connection with the alleged Ijagemo attack.

Legal experts say the defendant is presumed innocent until proven guilty by a Court of competent jurisdiction.
