UCJ UI celebrates Laolu Akande on 2026 Voice of Truth Award

THE Union of Campus Journalists, University of Ibadan (UCJ UI), has congratulated one of its distinguished alumni and former president, Mr Laolu Akande, on his emergence as the recipient of the 2026 Voice of Truth Award.

In a congratulatory message issued on Thursday, July 9, 2026, and signed by its President, Adebumowa Jesutomiiwo, and General Secretary, Olajide Tikristi, the union described the award as a well-deserved recognition of Akande’s unwavering commitment to truth, ethical journalism, public accountability, and courageous reporting.

The association noted that throughout his illustrious career, Akande has consistently demonstrated the values of responsible journalism, inspiring generations of journalists within and beyond Nigeria.

According to the statement, Akande’s journey from his days as a member and leader of the Union of Campus Journalists at the University of Ibadan to becoming a renowned journalist, editor, public affairs analyst, and national figure underscores the importance of integrity in the journalism profession.

The union commended his dedication to factual reporting and principled public engagement, saying his contributions continue to set a benchmark for journalists across the country.

“As members of the union he once led, we are immensely proud that his achievements continue to bring honour not only to UCJ UI but also to the University of Ibadan and Nigeria,” the statement read.

The association further stated that the recognition reaffirms that excellence, consistency, and courage in journalism do not go unnoticed.

UCJ UI expressed confidence that Akande’s latest achievement would inspire young journalists to uphold the ideals upon which the union was founded, while encouraging him to continue contributing to the advancement of journalism and nation-building.

The body also prayed for greater accomplishments for the award recipient, expressing hope that he would continue to champion the ideals of truth, justice, and responsible journalism.
