A Nigerian lady has accused officers of the Nigeria Police Force of assaulting her and her younger sister during what she described as an unprovoked encounter after leaving a nightclub in Surulere, Lagos.
According to the lady, the incident happened in the early hours of Friday after she, her sister and a friend stepped out of a club following her pre-birthday celebration.
She claimed they had just avoided being hit by a speeding commercial bus when several police officers allegedly attempted to force them into a patrol vehicle without any explanation.
Recalling the incident, she said:
“They grabbed my neck, wrist, blouse and wig, shouting that I should enter their bus. I kept asking why because I had done nothing wrong.”
She alleged that bystanders intervened and questioned the officers, preventing them from taking the women away.
The lady further claimed that when her younger sister began recording the incident on her phone, one of the officers allegedly sprayed pepper spray into her eyes before attempting to seize the device.
According to her, she confronted the officer over the alleged use of pepper spray, after which three officers reportedly pushed her to the ground.
“They pushed me so hard that I hit my head on the floor. People around said they heard the impact. I couldn’t move, and the officers drove away, leaving me there,” she added.
She said neighbours, friends and other bystanders came to her rescue before she was taken home.
However, she later lost consciousness in her sleep and was rushed to the hospital the following morning after her mother found her unresponsive.
The allegations have sparked outrage online, with many Nigerians calling for an investigation into the officers involved.
