The Speaker of the House of Representatives, Hon. Abbas Tajudeen, on Thursday expressed delight over the rescue of 308 persons abducted in separate attacks in Kwara and Niger states.
Speaker Tajudeen said the rescue was not only a huge relief to the victims and their families but also to the people and government of Nigeria.
While commending the Armed Forces and other security agencies involved for securing the safe return of the abductees, he said President Bola Ahmed Tinubu had further demonstrated his administration’s commitment to protecting lives and property across the country.
Security forces reportedly rescued 163 abductees from Woro Community in Kaiama Local Government Area of Kwara State and another 145 from around the Kainji Lake National Park forest in New Bussa Local Government Area of Niger State.
Describing the successful rescue operations as a welcome development and a major relief to Nigerians, the Speaker called for more strategic preventive measures to tackle insecurity.
He expressed confidence in the capacity of the country’s security agencies to prevent crime and maintain public safety.
The Speaker also reaffirmed the commitment of the House of Representatives to legislative interventions and initiatives aimed at further strengthening the country’s security architecture.
