Presidential candidate of the African Action Congress (AAC) and human rights activist, Omoyele Sowore, has accused operatives of the Department of State Services (DSS) and individuals linked to the Ekiti State Government House of sponsoring and facilitating an attack on him and members of his team in Ado-Ekiti.
Sowore alleged that the attackers were known political thugs who came from the Government House and received tracking and operational support from DSS operatives.
He also accused the Ekiti State Commissioner of Police, CP Falade Adegoroye Michael, of downplaying the incident by describing it as an “altercation” and the injuries sustained by the victims as “minor”, despite seeing their injuries during a visit to the scene.
The AAC candidate made the allegations in a series of posts on Friday, October 30, 2026, following the attack, which occurred shortly after he concluded a radio interview at MIDAS FM 90.5 in Ado-Ekiti.
In one of the posts, Sowore wrote, “This is the level of infamy to which Nigeria has been subjected! Those who brutally attacked us in Ado-Ekiti today came from the Government House @ekitistategov. They are well known, and they were provided with tracking and operational support by the DSS.”
He alleged that the harassment began shortly after he and his associates arrived in Ekiti State on Thursday, claiming that DSS operatives had been monitoring their movements and intimidating people who provided them with services.
“Since our arrival yesterday, DSS operatives have been trailing and harassing us. They even threatened the manager of the first place where we ate, warning him never to allow us to use his premises again,” he said.
Describing Friday’s incident, he added, “Today, shortly after I completed an interview at MIDAS FM 90.5 in Ado-Ekiti, the thugs descended on us in a violent attack, allegedly with the assistance of the DSS.”
Sowore Accuses Police Commissioner Of Downplaying Attack
Sowore also faulted the Ekiti State Police Command’s account of the incident, accusing Commissioner of Police Falade Adegoroye Michael of deliberately minimising the violence.
According to the activist, the commissioner personally visited the location where he and other victims were receiving emergency medical attention and saw their injuries before the police issued a statement describing the incident as an “altercation”.
Rejecting that description, Sowore insisted that he and his associates were attacked rather than involved in a confrontation.
In another post, he wrote: “The Commissioner of @PoliceNG in Ekiti State, CP Falade Adegoroye Michael, personally visited the scene of the brutal attack against us in Ado-Ekiti today. He saw firsthand the extensive injuries we sustained, yet he has the audacity to issue a despicable statement describing a coordinated, violent attack as a mere ‘altercation.’
“THERE WAS NO ALTERCATION! WE WERE ATTACKED!
“The Commissioner saw the injuries, witnessed the aftermath of the violence, and was fully aware of the seriousness of what happened. Yet his Command has chosen to trivialize the attack, even describing the injuries as ‘minor.’
“No wonder allegations have emerged that the Commissioner of Police himself was involved. This is despicable!
Sowore further claimed that a video circulating after the incident showed the commissioner leaving the emergency room after examining the victims.
AAC Campaign Demands Investigation
The attack had earlier prompted the Sowore/Magashi Presidential Election Campaign organisation to raise concerns over the candidate’s safety and whereabouts.
In a statement signed by its spokesperson, Abdulkareem Musa, the campaign described the incident as a serious security concern and called on the Nigeria Police Force, DSS, Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) and other relevant authorities to investigate.
“We demand an immediate security assessment, appropriate protective measures and a thorough investigation into the incident. The authorities must not wait for a tragedy before taking preventive action,” the campaign said.
It added: “Politics and elections are not warfare. No political actor or party has the right to engage violence, intimidation or attacks on citizens exercising their democratic rights.”
The campaign also warned that any harm to Sowore or members of his team would be unacceptable and demanded accountability from the relevant authorities.
Sowore is contesting the 2027 presidential election on the platform of the AAC. His visit to Ekiti was connected to his political engagements ahead of the general elections.
The attack has raised concerns over the safety of opposition politicians, activists and their supporters amid preparations for the 2027 polls.
