My 26th and latest book, Who Lost Afghanistan? (Center for Security Policy Press) is available now on Kindle and can be ordered here. The paperback edition right now is marked “currently unavailable,” but it should be available in a day or two at most.

“Bush concluded with a ringing peroration: ‘The battle is now joined on many fronts. We will not waver; we will not tire; we will not falter; and we will not fail. Peace and freedom will prevail. Thank you. May God continue to bless America.’”

“And yet we did waver. We did tire. We did falter. We did fail. Peace and freedom did not prevail. Once the whole thing was done, in an entirely transformed political landscape, even whether God would continue to bless America was not fully clear.”

So writes Robert Spencer in Who Lost Afghanistan?, a poignant look at how the refusal to take seriously the motivations of America’s enemies in the Global War on Terror set off a 20-year slow motion defeat that will impact U.S. national security for decades to come.
