The Osun State Police Command has launched a full-scale investigation into the killing of Olalekan Oyeyemi, popularly known as “Emir Ajagungbade”, an aide to Governor Ademola Adeleke.
Oyeyemi was killed in a shooting incident in Ile-Ife on Sunday, with the police saying efforts were already underway to identify and arrest everyone connected with the attack.
The command’s Public Relations Officer, Abiodun Ojelabi, said the investigation would cover both the immediate and remote causes of the incident, as detectives work to unravel what led to the killing.
According to him, Commissioner of Police Ibrahim Zungura ordered officers to the scene after the command received a report of a road traffic accident near Energy Filling Station, Ile-Ife.
Ojelabi said the officers secured the area and restored normalcy before preliminary investigations revealed that Oyeyemi had sustained fatal gunshot injuries.
The police commissioner condemned the killing and appealed to residents, community leaders and other stakeholders to remain calm while the investigation continues.
Zungura warned against reprisal attacks, destruction of property and other acts of violence, stressing that anyone found to have played a role in the incident would face the law.
The command also appealed to members of the public who may have useful information about the killing to come forward and assist investigators.
Zungura commiserated with the family, friends and associates of the deceased, assuring residents that the command remained committed to protecting lives and maintaining peace across Osun State.
The police said they were determined to establish the circumstances surrounding Oyeyemi’s death and ensure that those responsible were arrested and brought to justice.
