The Commissioner for Finance in Ondo State, Omowumi Isaac, has reportedly been under investigation over criminal conspiracy, attempted murder, threat to life, and assault.
Reports indicate that the Inspector General of Police (IGP) Monitoring Unit, in a formal “Letter of Invitation” dated April 7, 2026, ordered the commissioner to report to the Force Headquarters in Abuja on Wednesday, April 15, 2024, to answer for the allegations.
The invitation, signed by Assistant Commissioner of Police (ACP) Mayamba Magomya Aliya on behalf of the Head of the IGP Monitoring Unit, revealed that the commissioner’s name “featured prominently” in a petition currently under investigation.
“This office is investigating a case of Criminal Conspiracy, Attempted Murder, Threat to Life, Assault and Causing Grievous Bodily Harm reported to the Inspector General of Police in which your name featured prominently,” the letter read.
The summons is being executed under the legal framework of the Administration of Criminal Justice Act (ACJA) 2015.
“This invitation is in pursuance of section 53 (2)(a) of the Administration of Criminal Justice Act, 2015. Your cooperation in this regards (sic) would be highly appreciated, please,” the police stated.
Some security sources in the state say that Governor Lucky Aiyedatiwa is pressuring the police to stop questioning the commissioner about the allegations.
Sources say Governor Aiyedatiwa does not want the commissioner questioned about alleged financial misconduct, even though the invitation is unrelated to an investigation into state finances.
“Ondo State finance commissioner Omowumi Isaac is under interrogation, but Governor Aiyedatiwa is pressuring the police to stop questioning her over financial shenanigans in the state,” the source said.
According to the police, the interview with the Head of the IGP Monitoring Unit is intended to “shed more light on the allegations.”
While the specific details of the incident leading to the alleged “attempted murder” and “grievous bodily harm” remain sketchy, the document confirms that the petition was significant enough to catch the direct attention of the IGP’s office in Abuja.
