Police Arrest Landlord Over Killing Of Nursing Student In Anambra, Nab Suspect Over Abduction Of Three Children In Adamawa

The Anambra State Police Command has arrested a landlord, Ogochukwu Ugoeze, in connection with the gruesome killing of a nursing student, Miss Chiamaka Vivian Chilaka.

The deceased was a multi-award-winning final-year National Diploma II student of the College of Nursing Sciences, Alor, in Idemili South Local Government Area of Anambra State.

The incident reportedly occurred at the student’s residence on Sunday, June 14, 2026.

A viral video showed a priest, visibly distraught, directing a companion to take photographs of Chilaka’s room, where a stick was reportedly found. The footage also showed the lifeless body of the deceased outside the room, with cuts on her thighs and other visible injuries.

The video further revealed bloodstains on the ground, damaged household items and personal belongings scattered around the compound, suggesting that a struggle may have taken place before her death.

The priest was heard lamenting: “My daughter, my daughter! This is the dead body of my daughter. This is what they did to my daughter.”

Neighbours reportedly accused Ugoeze, the deceased’s landlord, of having persistently sexually harassed the student, whose alleged rejection of his advances was said to have created tension between them.

It was gathered that the landlord initially reported to the police that unknown persons had gained access to his compound, attacked the student and left her dead.

However, residents reportedly questioned his account, noting that a dog kept within the compound usually barked whenever strangers entered the premises.

The police subsequently arrested Ugoeze as the principal suspect, while the body of the deceased was deposited in a mortuary for preservation and autopsy.

The Commissioner of Police in Anambra State, Ikioye Orutugu, has ordered the transfer of the case to the State Criminal Investigation Department, Awka, and directed investigators to expedite action on the suspected murder of the 23-year-old nursing student, who was said to be an orphan from Isinwa in Ngor Okpala Local Government Area of Imo State.

The Anambra State Police Command, in a statement, confirmed that the landlord is in custody and undergoing interrogation as investigations continue.

In a separate development, the Adamawa State Police Command has arrested a suspect in connection with the alleged abduction of three children in Yola North Local Government Area of the state.

According to the statement, Musa, a resident of Hullere Gwalamba in Yola North, reported the incident to the State Intelligence Department on June 16, 2026.
