Police arraign 61-year-old man over alleged N2.65m land

Odutola Olajide, a 61-year-old man has been arraigned before a chief magistrates’ court in Badagry, Lagos state, over alleged fraud involving N2.65 million.

Olajide was brought before the court on Thursday on a two-count charge bordering on fraud and stealing.

According to ASP Edet EkpoASP Edet Ekpo, the prosecutor the alleged offences were committed in May 2025 at Harmony Estate, Mowo area of Badagry.

The prosecution alleged that the defendant obtained N2 million from Olatobosun Rasheed, the complainant under the pretence of selling a plot of land to him.

Ekpo further told the court that the defendant allegedly collected an additional N650,000 from the complainant with a promise to purchase a ram on his behalf, but failed to do so.

The prosecutor said the defendant converted both sums to personal use without the complainant’s consent.

According to the police, the alleged offences contravene Sections 314 and 287 of the Criminal Laws of Lagos State, 2015.

The defendant, however, pleaded not guilty to the charges.

Nurudeen Layeni, Chief Magistrate  granted Olajide bail in the sum of N1 million with two sureties in like sum.

The court added that one of the sureties must be a company director.

The case was adjourned until June 3 for mention.
