Gov. Sheriff Oborevwori of Delta on Tuesday donated a brand-new 18-seater Toyota Hiace bus to the Nigeria Union of Journalists (NUJ), Delta Council.
The governor, represented by his Chief Press Secretary, Sir Festus Ahon, presented the bus to the NUJ State Council Chairman, Mr Churchill Oyowe at Government House, Asaba.
Oborevwori described the gesture as a demonstration of the cordial relationship between his administration and the media.
He said the donation is in recognition of the longstanding relationship between the state government and the journalists’ body.
Oborevwori said: “This bus donation is for the use of the Delta State Council of the Nigeria Union of Journalists.
”This gesture is as a result of the good relationship that we have had over the years.”
The governor expressed optimism that the gesture would further strengthen the partnership between his administration and the media.
He said that the objective is to promote the interest and development of the state.
The governor congratulated the NUJ on the acquisition and prayed that the bus would enhance the union’s operations and contribute to an even more stronger working relationship between the government and journalists.
Responding, Oyowe expressed appreciation to the governor for fulfilling the promise he made to the union.
He described the donation as clear evidence of the governor’s commitment to keeping his word to his people.
“We are most grateful, What the governor has done today is a demonstration of the fact that he promises and he delivers. He made his promise and he has delivered,” Oyowe said.
The NUJ chairman, who described the gesture as beyond the provision of a means of transportation, noted that the bus is brand-new and of a modern model.
“We do not take it for granted, and we believe that it will further cement our cordial working relationship,” he added.
Oyowe commended the governor’s developmental strides across the state, while expressing optimism that more significant achievements would be recorded before the end of his tenure.
He said the people of Delta would ultimately look back and remember Oborevwori as an administrator, who genuinely cared about their welfare and the overall development of the state.
Oyowe reaffirmed the union’s commitment to sustaining its cordial relationship with the state government, stressing that the body valued both the partnership and the gesture.
He prayed for continued strength and wisdom for the governor to lead the state to greater heights and leave behind a legacy that would be appreciated by posterity.
Oyowe also expressed appreciation to the Secretary to the State Government, Dr Kingsley Emu; the Commissioner for Works (Rural Roads) and Public Information, Mr Charles Aniagwu and to Sir Festus Ahon, CPS to the Governor for their roles in facilitating the donation.
