The Kaduna State Chapter of the Nigerian Institute of Public Relations (NIPR) is set to host the maiden edition of the Bashir Adamu Chedi Annual Memorial Lecture on 29 August 2026 in Kaduna.
The annual lecture is being instituted in honour of the late Mallam Bashir Adamu Chedi, a former Chairman and Council Member of the NIPR Kaduna State Chapter, in recognition of his outstanding contributions to the growth and development of the Institute, as well as his commitment to mentoring and nurturing young professionals in the public relations profession.
The maiden edition, with the theme, “Bridging Generations: Strengthening Public Relations Through Mentorship,” is expected to bring together leading public relations practitioners, academics, government officials, media professionals, young practitioners, students and other stakeholders from across Nigeria.
The Honourable Minister of Information and National Orientation, Alhaji Mohammed Idris, FNIPR, will serve as the Special Guest of Honour, while the President and Chairman of Council of the Nigerian Institute of Public Relations, Dr. Ike Neliaku, FNIPR, will serve as the Chief Host.
The Comptroller-General of the Nigeria Customs Service, Bashir Adewale Adeniyi, FNIPR, is expected to chair the occasion, while Dr. Mrs. Nkechi Ali-Balogun, FNIPR, will deliver the memorial lecture as Guest Speaker.
Speaking on the significance of the event, the Chairman of the NIPR Kaduna State Chapter, Haroun Malami, MNIPR, said the memorial lecture was conceived to honour the enduring legacy of Malam Bashir Adamu Chedi and preserve the memory of his contributions to the Institute, particularly the Kaduna State Chapter.
According to him, the initiative will also provide an important platform for practitioners to reflect on the values of service, professionalism, mentorship and leadership exemplified by the late former Chairman and Council Member.
“Malam Bashir Adamu Chedi was deeply committed to the growth of the profession and, particularly, to creating opportunities for younger practitioners to learn, develop and contribute meaningfully. This memorial lecture is our way of preserving that legacy while creating a platform for the next generation of public relations professionals to benefit from the wisdom and experience of those who came before them,” Malami said.
He added that mentorship remains critical to the continued growth, relevance and sustainability of the public relations profession, particularly at a time when the industry is undergoing rapid transformation driven by technology, digital media and changing stakeholder expectations.
“Effective mentorship provides a bridge between experience and innovation. It enables seasoned practitioners to transfer professional knowledge, ethical values, institutional memory and practical experience to younger generations, while also creating opportunities for intergenerational learning and collaboration,” he added.
The lecture is expected to stimulate meaningful conversations around intergenerational collaboration, mentorship, professional development, ethical practice and the future of public relations in Nigeria.
The Kaduna State Chapter of the NIPR therefore invites members of the Institute, public relations practitioners, academics, government officials, students, media professionals and other stakeholders to join in commemorating the life, service and enduring legacy of Mallam Bashir Adamu Chedi.
The Chapter expressed confidence that the memorial lecture would become an enduring annual platform for knowledge exchange, professional reflection and the development of future generations of public relations practitioners.
