Nigeria’s envoy, Lola Akande, presents credentials to Denmark’s King

Nigeria’s Ambassador to Sweden, with concurrent accreditation to Denmark, Finland and Norway, Ambassador Lola Akande, has formally commenced her diplomatic engagement with Denmark after presenting her Letters of Credence to King Frederik X.

Akande presented the credentials to the Danish monarch on Thursday, October 8, 2026, at Christiansborg Palace in Copenhagen.

Following the ceremony, the ambassador was received in audience by King Frederik X, where she conveyed the warm greetings and best wishes of President Bola Ahmed Tinubu to the King, the Danish Royal Family, as well as the government and people of Denmark.

During the meeting, Akande reaffirmed Nigeria’s commitment to deepening bilateral relations with Denmark, stressing the importance of expanding cooperation across key areas of mutual interest.

The Ambassador commended King Frederik X for his longstanding commitment to global sustainability and climate stewardship, while identifying climate action, peace and security, and sustainable development as important pillars for strengthening Nigeria-Denmark relations.

Akande also emphasised Nigeria’s strategic interest in its relationship with Denmark and expressed the country’s readiness to work closely with the Danish government, private sector and other stakeholders to broaden bilateral cooperation.

The presentation of the Letters of Credence formally marks the beginning of Akande’s diplomatic responsibilities as Nigeria’s Ambassador to Denmark.

Akande is resident in Stockholm, Sweden, where she serves as Nigeria’s Ambassador to Sweden, with concurrent accreditation to Denmark, Finland and Norway.
